A very special trip to Scotland
Monday
It was very early in the mornnig when we met near Salzachhalle in Laufen from where the 25 pupils and their teachers, Frau Zauner, Herr Mittasch as well as our social worker Frau Himmelsbach boarded the shuttle bus to Munich Airport from where we took the Lufthansa flight to Glasgow. After almost two hours flight we touched down at Glasgow Airport. As last time we stayed in a hostel, not far from the city centre. In the afternoon the group explored Scotland's largest city.
Tuesday
Right after school had started at William Mc Illvanney Campus we were welcomed by the school staff, the headteacher Mr. Rose and Mrs. Simpson and 25 Scottish pupils before provost Jim Todd arrived at the campus. He spent the whole day with our group. Together with the pupils of our host school we played an Austrian card game, called "Watten", enjoyed an art lesson and attended three very interesting and funny science presentations.
Provost Jim Todd invited us for lunch to the London Road headquarters.
We asked the provost a few questions at the asembly hall before some of us enjoyed a tour at the risk management centre.
The group spent the rest of the afternoon at the Grange Leisure Centre where they were introduced to the art of playing rugby.
Wednesday
The next day the group had to cover a large programme at Scotland's charming capital Edinburgh. They started at Carlton Hill, marveled at Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament. Finally all of them acended Arthur's Seat. The group also made their way up to Edinburgh Castle along Royal Mile.
On our way back to Glasgow the group stopped in South Queensferry to see Forth Bridge.
Thursday
On the way to Oban we went up north and we were overwhelmed by the beauty of Loch Lomond Nationalpark.
Oban is a lovely small town worth visiting. Some pupils tried fish and chips at the harbour before they continued their exploration of the highlands which was the highlight for most of them. Especially the walk to the Lost Valley near Glencoe was a great experience. After one and a half hour we eventually enjoyed a magnificent view over this glacier-shaped landscape.
The whole group made it to the top - The teachers are very proud of them!
Friday
Time passed too quickly and we had to fly back home. After breakfast we were dropped off at Glasgow Airport. With some delay we finally arrived at home happily.
We want to thank Glen Higgins, Connor Docherty, Provost Jim Todd as well as all the teachers and pupils at William Mc Illvanney Campus for all their efforts and their warm welcome! We hope to welcome them very soon in Oberndorf!
